Eel farming: from one to thousand

Eel farming is not the easy process. We start farming eels from the glass-eel stage (0.3 g weight). After 1 -2 years of growing most of the eels have already reached the required size. They are then sorted for the last time and ones of the required size are transferred to a separate “cleansing“ system.Tre eels are completely cleansed of any feed residue. It esures that eels do not have any foreign taste such as ‘sludge’ aftertaste which is often present in other eels. This ensures that you can experience the clean and real taste of the eel’s meat.

Fish farming is the process of increasing the biomass in a body of water by injecting fry. Tis is needed to rebalance the body of water or to farm new fish species. In recent years, eels have been declining in the wild. This led to establishment of Europe-wide program that today protects eels to ensure their survival. One form to preserve eels is eel farming. All eels come to the aquaculture farm from wild nature because it is not possible to breed them under artificial conditions.

Eels reach the farms in glass eel stages, weighting only ~ 0.3 g. Glass eels are caught off the coasts of western Europe – Portugal, Spain, France and the west of Great Britain. We buy glass eels only from reliable suppliers, who ensure that they are carefully caught, undamaged and of the highest quality. To ensure the well-being of glass eels, we aim to shorten their journey to our farm as much as possible. Al eels come to Lithuania by private plane. In closed fisheries, farmed eels are transferred to a natural environment where they adapt over time. Fish & Fish farm provides fish farming services in Lithuania.
